Lynn Hellebust collection, 1978-2000.

The Lynn Hellebust collection includes notes, photographs, and profiles documenting all Kansas legislators between 1978-2000, used for her annual publication, Kansas Legislative Handbook. The handbook served as a guide to all Kansas legislators in a given year. The information on each legislator includes birth date and family information, occupation, education, association memberships, business and financial interests, political and governmental experience, house or senate leadership committee assignments, group ratings, election results, campaign contribution summaries, and lists of political action committees and contributions. Each box contains an index of legislators. They are organized by date and district number.

The first House of Representatives in the Kansas Legislature consisted of 75 members who were chosen for one year, and the first Senate consisted of 25 members who were chosen for two years. An amendment to the state constitution in 1873 raised the number of Representatives to 125 and the number of Senators to 40.
